About the Maine Coon
Known as the “gentle giant” of the cat world, the Maine Coon is an extraordinary breed loved for its impressive size, striking appearance, intelligence, and affectionate personality.
Maine Coons are one of the largest domestic cat breeds, with males typically weighing around 13–18 pounds and females often ranging from 8–12 pounds, although individual cats may be larger or smaller. They are a slow-maturing breed and may continue developing in size, coat, and overall structure until approximately 3–5 years of age.
Their signature features are hard to miss—large expressive eyes, beautifully tufted ears, substantial paws, long flowing coats, full ruffs, and magnificent bushy tails. But as impressive as their appearance may be, it is often their temperament that makes people fall completely in love with the breed.
Maine Coons are known for being social, intelligent, playful, and deeply connected to their families. Many enjoy following their people from room to room, “helping” with everyday activities, and communicating with their characteristic chirps and trills. Their loyal, interactive nature is why they are often affectionately described as the “dogs of the cat world.”
